I read this with John in anticipation of a road trip to Mansfield, Missouri. We'll be coming from the opposite direction, in early spring rather than late summer, and by car, not horse-drawn, custom covered-buggy (but those are just minor details). The book was an interesting look into another time and place (insane asylum as tourist attraction? 20-pound watermelon for a nickle? overnight camping in the schoolyard?).
